Two apples and a cut half against burning yellow. Complementary colour pushed as far as it will go.
The story behind the work
Red against yellow is a fight, and I wanted to see who would win. The apples are nearly black at their cores, so dark and saturated they almost stop being a colour at all; the cut half opens to show its pale, ordinary flesh — the secret inside the spectacle. A still life that is secretly about how much we are willing to take on faith from a surface.
