Two businessmen shake hands while one of them quietly burns. A painted homage to Pink Floyd, and a parable about the deals that cost us ourselves.
The story behind the work
A homage to the album cover that haunted my childhood — Pink Floyd's two businessmen, one on fire, both pretending everything is fine. I painted my own version because the image never stopped being true. We shake hands on things that are burning us alive and keep our faces neutral; we trade our integrity in rooms with good air conditioning. The man on fire feels nothing, which is the most damning detail of all.
Artist's note
An homage, painted with love and full credit to Storm Thorgerson and Hipgnosis. Some images are too true to leave alone.
