A trumpeter lost inside the music, his face dissolving into colour. Sound rendered as paint.

The story behind the work

How do you paint a sound? I gave up trying to paint the man accurately and instead tried to paint what the note does to him — the way it pulls his features into greens and blues that have no business being on a face. The trumpet flares green at the bell, leaking light. This is the closest I have come to painting music itself rather than a musician.
